each player has 1000 point list using the following restrictions:
1 HQ
1-4 troops
0-1 fast
0-1 heavy
0-1 elite
you may have ONE extra choice in either fast, heavy, or elite.
you may not take allies.

each team is composed of 2 1000 point lists that interact in the following ways:
each team rolls for deployment/first turn using one dice.
each team deploys as one army.
each team plays each phase of the game as one army, though to speed up the game player A on team 1 can shoot at a unit owned by player C on team 2 at the same time that player B on team 1 shoots at player D on team 2 ETC ETC ETC.
each team collectively scores victory based on conditions after each game...no individual scores.
wargear, special rules do not affect your teammate's army (ie chaos icons, homing beacons, vulkan giving twin link to meltas, ork waaaagh, etc.)
you may not attach a character to your partner's unit and you may not embark on your partner's transport.

Are you going to post the scores from the last tourney?

And what is the cost of this next tourney?

Two out of town guys so far are coming up from CT. I'm still talking to some other peeps. As long as all the locals come we'll probably have a great turnout!

I should be fully painted by then too...fingers crossed....

Ok, I have some guys that want to make the trip. They are wondering if they can be teammates with each other instead of random. They are willing to pay to enter as usual but will remove themselves from the running for prizes. What do you guys think?

The problem though is even if they remove themselves from the running they are still effecting those who play them. They'd have the advantage of strategizing before the tournament. Anyone who faced them is still taking a score even if they aren't and they are coming into the tournament with a distinct advantage. I'm not sure there's a real fair way to handle a pre-set team.

Yeah, unfortunately, anyone matched against a preset team is at a disadvantage. Even bumping themselves out of the running leaves the matchee team with a potential loss to a biased team.

Yeah, I would have to agree with tony and todd, it's supposed to be random partners, Thats what makes it so cool! And I don't want to potentially lose to a preset team and take me out of the running for a prize, even if they won't claim prizes.

Ya Matt although it would be cool to get as many people as possible I tend to agree the whole spirit of the random partners thing.

Regarding the whole limit of force orgs - greater daemons don't use up slots, but are generally considered HQ (1 per army). Would they take up the one HQ spot in this setup?

allow me to field this one. first i suppose it depend on which chaos codex your using. be it chaos marines, then the answer is no they do not count towards this requirment as they do not use a force org chart slot to begin with, see rules on greater deamon in said codex. as for the chaos deamons codex, they do take up a chart slot so the answer here would be a yes.

Similar to Servitors, Command Squads, and Honr Guard in the Marnie book. All of these explicitly say they do not take up a slot in the FOC.

If I may make a suggestion:

http://www.adepticon.org/wpfiles/2010/1040KTTPrimer.pdf

I think it would be fun to use 3 of the scenarios out of this packet. nice variety for you guys and I get in some real practice a week before Adepticon!

these special units are still a 0/1 choice right? I don't see why you could not take them.
