When life reaches a crossroads...
by Chris
Brenden Hill has always enjoyed games. At a young age, he was taught to play Cribbage by his grandfather, Roger Hill. His love of strategy and competition made gaming a natural outlet.
All through high school and college, gaming was an important part of Brenden's life. During the summer of 1999, B decided that he wanted to start an online game store. On Labor Day weekend 1999, he opened a tiny, 500-square-foot storefront on Route 25 in Standish to serve as a receiving station and as a place where he could do some sideline work as an accountant.
1999 was good year for the gaming industry. On the advice of one of his sales reps, Brenden bought a few boxes of a hot new card game called Pokemon. What started as a couple of phonecalls about this game quickly turned into a sea of Pokemon Trainers that covered the floor of the store and spilled out into the parking lot. This early gaming explosion helped create the Crossroad Games we have today.
The Route 25 location saw three expansions in two years and in 2001, the need for a larger space brought the store to its current Route 114 location.
In 2002, Chris(a lifelong gamer and self appointed Queen of the Geeks) opened Monkfish Books, a sister store to Crossroads specializing in Books, Comics and Scrapbooking Supplies. Over time, the two stores merged together and by the end of 2004, Monkfish and Crossroads merged to become the 5000 square foot gaming mecca that is Crossroad Games and Books.
On December 1, 2004, Crossroad Games pushed westward and opened a second store in Conway, New Hampshire. The store was a huge success until April 1, 2005 when the building that housed the store caught fire. While the product was saved, the water damage to the store was severe. Since Brenden and Chris were only a few months away from their wedding, it was decided that the Conway store would remain closed.
Also in 2005, close friend Eric Leach bought Choose Your Own Adventure Games. Chris and Brenden asked if he would be interested in making the Scarborough store a Crossroad Games and he accepted. The Scarborough store closed its doors in 2006 after the birth of Eric's second son.
We've been going strong for almost 8 years and we're sticking with our one original store. We hope to keep serving the needs of gamers for many more.

That Crossroad Games is grammatically incorrect? There is no such thing as a crossroad. It should have been crossroads, but Crossroads Games just sounds weird.
